MOORHEAD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica Saints women's soccer team suffered its third consecutive loss Friday night as CSS fell to the #6 Wheaton College Thunder 5-0 in the first game of the Cobber Invite in Moorhead.
The Thunder came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, outshooting CSS by a 20-3 margin. The Saints defense held strong until Ally Witt buried an unassisted goal from the far right wing to give Wheaton the early lead in the 18th minute. Just five minutes later, Anna Seabolt would score on a header to push the lead to 2-0. St. Scholastica would hold the Thunder for the remainder of the half, heading into the locker room down a pair of goals.
The Saints continued to weather another storm of shots in the second half from the Thunder, as Sarah Guidera scored an early second half goal in the 48th minute. Just a few minutes after assisting on that score, Bailey Wysocki would bury a shot inside the box to push the Wheaton lead to 4-0 in the 53rd minute. The Thunder would tack on another insurance goal as Sarah Frey's 83rd minute goal pushed the score to the final of 5-0 in favor of Wheaton.
In the winning effort for the Thunder, Ally Witt scored a goal and tallied a late assist on the Frey goal. Keeper Kelsey Graham saved two shots for Wheaton, while Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) saved 11 shots in the loss for CSS.
The Saints look to halt their early three game skid on Sunday evening at 5 p.m. as they take on the host Concordia College Cobbers, who are currently ranked #18 in the nation. Concordia will put its 2-0 record on the line tomorrow evening before hosting the Saints on Sunday
