DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will have its home opener on Saturday when 13th-ranked College of Saint Benedict travels to Duluth.

The St. Scholastica volleyball team opened its season in California last weekend, splitting its four matches … The Saints will have their earliest home opener since the 2010 season when they hosted a tournament on September 1.
 
Morrin Named Player of the Week: Junior outside hitter Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) was named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday … Morrin led the Saints in kills in all four matches, totaling 61 for the weekend … She registered double-doubles in kills and digs in all four matches as well … Her 22 kills vs. Occidental were tied for the third-most in program history for a three-set match.
 
Continued Success in Season Openers: With its three-set sweep of Chapman last Friday, the Saints have now won five straight season openers, four of which by sweeps.
 
Ohaju's Block Party: Junior middle blocker Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) recorded 20 total blocks in the four matches last weekend … Her 1.33 blocks per set currently lead the conference.
 
Solid Defense: After the first weekend, the Saints have three players ranked in the top five of the UMAC for digs … Senior Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) led the way last weekend with 73 digs … Morrin added 55 digs and Junior Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) chipped in 53 digs.
 
Series History: The Saints are 16-10 all-time against the Blazers … However, the Blazers have won four straight against the Saints, all by sweeps … The lone NCAA Division III Tournament victory for the Saints came against St. Ben's in 2011 by a 3-2 score.
 
College Saint Benedict Blazers
The Blazers began the season going 2-2 in their own Labor Day Tournament … Saint Benedict is ranked 13th in this week's America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll … St. Ben's swept both UW-Platteville and UW-Eau Claire on Friday before dropping two, five-set thrillers to second-ranked UW-Stevens Point and fellow UMAC school University of Northwestern … The Blazers were eliminated from the 2013 NCAA Tournament by UW-Stevens Point last season … The Blazers led NCAA Division III in kills and assists per set last season … The Blazers are led by senior setter Taya Kockelman and senior outside hitter Lexi Rinde … Both earned All-American honors as juniors – Kockelman was named to the third team and Rinde earned honorable mention … Also back is senior libero Victoria Nass, who was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year last season.
