Volleyball Picks up a Pair of Sweeps

-Jen Hortness (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) and Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) were named to the All-Tournament team

OSHKOSH, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team swept both Finlandia University (Mich.) and Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday on the second day of the Pizza Hut Classic, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
 
CSS 3, Finlandia 0
The Saints opened the day by cruising past the Lions from FInlandia by scores of 25-7, 25-10, 25-12.
 
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the Saints with eight kills. Jen Hortness (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) added seven kills and Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) six kills. Emily Jansen (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) registered 10 assists and Kirsten Eaton (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had nine assists.
 
Taylor Mitchell led the Lions with three kills. Finlandia had a negative hitting percentage in all three sets.
 
CSS 3, Lawrence 0
The Saints finished play in Oshkosh with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-12 victory over Lawrence.
 
Freshman Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) led the Saints with 11 kills. Morrin added nine kills, while another freshman Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) had seven kills. Houser also had two block solos and three block assists. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 23 assists.
 
Kayla Storm led the Vikings with seven kills.

The Saints (5-6) open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action next Friday when they face Martin Luther College at 7 p.m. in New Ulm.
