LA VERNE, Calif. (csssaints.com) – Much like day one of the Pacific Coast Classic, the St. Scholastica volleyball team swept its opening match of day on Saturday, defeating Occidental College (Calif.), but fell to the host school in its second match the University of La Verne in four sets to finish 2-2 for the weekend. CSS 3, Occidental 0Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) recorded 22 kills to lead the Saints past Occidental 25-23, 25-21 and 25-21.
Amanda Belden (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) and
Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) each added eight kills apiece and
Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) had six kills.
Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) led CSS with 24 digs and
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 35 set assists.
Occidental (1-2) was led by Claire Storhm with 11 kills.
CSS 1, La Verne 3The Leopards improved to 3-0 with a four set victory over the Saints by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-16 and 25-22.
Morrin led the Saints once again with 14 kills, while Elvehjem added 11 kills.
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had a team-high 13 digs and Birkeland had 37 set assists. Ohaju had three block solos and four block assists.
Brittany Yaxley led La Verne with 22 kills.

The Saints (2-2) will be at home next Saturday when they host the College of Saint Benedict at the Reif Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
