PREVIEW: Men's Hockey to Host Falcons in NCHA Quarterfinal

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will host a Harris Cup Quarterfinal series at Mars Lakeview Arena this weekend as the Saints face Concordia University (Wis.) on Friday and Saturday night.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 13-8-4 (10-5-3 NCHA)

-The Saints enter the Harris Cup playoffs as the No. 3 seed.
-CSS needed to defeat Marian in the regular season finale to clinch home ice for the quarterfinal round. The win snapped a three-game losing skid.
-However, five of CSS's eight losses this season have come at Mars Lakeview Arena.
-Senior captain Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) was the lone Saint to reach double-figures in goals scores, leading the team with 12. He also led the Saints with 23 points.
-Fellow senior Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) led the Saints with 13 assists.
-Sophomore goaltender Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) is ranked third in the NCHA with a 2.02 goals-against-average. He also third in the league with 460 saves this year and fourth in save percentage (.924).
-CSS has had a league low 87 power-play opportunities this season. The Saints have not scored with the man-advantage in their last 18 opportunities.
-St. Scholastica's penalty kill is ranked second in the NCHA (.861). The Saints have not allowed a power-play goal in the last three games (0-for-13).
-The Saints are 10-0-2 when leading after two periods, but are 0-6-2 when trailing at the second intermission.
-CSS is 3-0-1 in its last two NCHA quarterfinal contests and have lost only two games in this round since the 2007-08 season.

Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons
Record: 10-11-4 (7-9-2 NCHA)

-The Falcons enter the Harris Cup playoffs as the No. 6 seed.
-Since it had a six-game winning streak snapped on January 17th, Concordia has a record of 2-7-1. The two wins came at home vs. Northland and MSOE.
-Three seniors and four juniors is all that is on this young roster of 30.
-Sophomore forward Devin Stuermer led the team with 24 points this season (12 goals, 12 assists).
-Fellow sophomore Chris Hughes and freshman Brett Penner each had 11 goals and 11 assists.
-Freshman Riley Storzuk led the Falcons with 14 assists.
-Sophomore Domingo Torrenueva has seen the majority of the play in net and had a 3.60 goals-against-average.
-The Falcons have allowed 11 power-play goals in the last five games.
-Concordia is unbeaten when leading at an intermission this season, but only has one win when trailing after the first or second periods.
Series History: (CSS is 0-0-2 vs. Concordia Wisconsin)
-The first meetings between the two programs took place in the series of the season. Both teams combined to score 18 goals as both contests ended in ties.
