ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team lost to No.10 Adrian College on Saturday night 7-4.
The Bulldogs were the first to score on Saturday in Michigan. Kristin Lewicki scored a quick goal for Adrian College only 54 seconds into the game. St. Scholastica's
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) answered later in the period with a power play goal and was assisted by teammates
Kaitlin Johnston (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater HS) and
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS). Kelsey Kusch scored late in the period for the Bulldogs which gave Adrian a 2-1 lead over the Saints after the first period.
Lewicki opened the scoring once again in the second period for the Bulldogs.
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) had a quick answer to Lewicki's goal for the Saints. Logergren was assisted by Waidacher and
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)) for the second Saints goal of the night. Kusch also recorded her second goal of the night for the Bulldogs in the second period. Waidacher scored her second power play goal of the night and her 10
th goal of the season to set the score at 4-3 in favor of Adrian. She was assisted by Logergren and Hanowski. This was Hanowski's second assist on the night also; both assists coming off a power play goal. Michelle Jones scored a power play goal for the Bulldogs while Kusch netted her third goal of the night late in the second. The Bulldogs led the Saints 6-3 after two period of play.
Logan Taylor kept the pattern going by scoring first for the Bulldogs in the third period. Bulldogs lead the Saints 7-3 after Taylor's power play goal. Waidacher closes the game with her third power play goal of the night for a hat trick. She was unassisted in her 11
th goal of the season. St. Scholastica used both goalies in Saturday's game.
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 13 saves while allowing three goals and
Kristen Hunt (Winnipeg, Manitoba/West Kildonan) had 11 saves while allowing four goals.
The Bulldogs had some difficulty in the penalty department. Adrian visited the box eight times on Saturday in comparison to the Saints' five visits. Bulldog Hannah McGowan was awarded a major penalty at the end of the third period to top off the eight penalties. Adrian College improves its record to 6-0-1 both overall and in conference play.
St. Scholastica's record drops to 5-3-1 overall and for the conference.
The Saints and Bulldogs faceoff again on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET in Adrian, Michigan.
