MENOMONIE, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's basketball team dropped its third straight game on Saturday, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Stout 76-43 at Johnson Fieldhouse.
 
The Saints got off to a great start, scoring the first six points, four of which by Danica Schellbach (Rush City, Minn./Rush City HS). However with CSS up 8-3 four minutes in, the Blue Devils went on a 16-0 run to go up 10 midway through the half. The Saints would get as close as eight the rest of the way. UW-Stout led 43-22 at halftime.
 
The Blue Devils (2-4) outscored the Saints in the paint 24-8 and had a 15-5 edge in points off turnovers in the first half. Stout shot 48-percent from the field, while the Saints struggled, shooting only 36-percent, including 0-for-7 on 3-point attempts and 4-of-10 from the free throw line.
 
Stout kept the margin in the 20s for a majority of the second half and ultimately won by a final score of 76-43.
 
St. Scholastica shot 41-percent in the second half to finish at 38-percent for the game, while the Blue Devils finished at 39-percent. Both teams combined to go 4-for-35 from beyond the arc. Rebounding was the difference as Stout had a 50-29 edge on the glass, including 25 offensive rebounds. CSS also committed 24 turnovers, which led to 25 Blue Devil points.
 
Schellbach led the Saints with 10 points. Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added nine points. Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) had a team-high six rebounds. UW-Stout had five players score in double-figures led by Kyleigh Hebert with 13 points.
 
The Saints (0-3) will play Gustavus Adolphus in the consolation game tomorrow at 11 a.m. The Gusties lost 78-76 to the University of Dubuque earlier in the day.
