LAKE FOREST, Ill. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team played Lake Forest College (Ill.) to a 2-2 tie Friday night in Illinois.

The Foresters led after one period as Erin Shamley scored a power-play goal midway through the opening period. Lake Forest had a 7-5 advantage in shots in the first 20 minutes.

The Saints were only able to get four shots off in the second period, but made one of them count as Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) knotted the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal of her own seven minutes into the period. Taylor Guzzo (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelley HS (UW-River Falls)) and Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) had the assists.

It remained 1-1 until Brandi Malwitz (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) gave St. Scholastica its first lead of the night with 7:16 remaining in the third to make it 2-1. Katie Josephson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) had the assists.

However, the Foresters tied the game with 2:41 remaining in regulation when Allie Girard found the back of the net. CSS had a power-play after the tying goal, but could not capitalize as the contest went to overtime.

In overtime, both teams would hit some iron as Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) and Allie Girard both struck the pipe. In the end, neither team would find the back of the net and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Lake Forest out-shot the Saints 34-16 in the contest. Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) had 32 saves for the Saints, while Allie Carter had 14 saves for the Foresters.

The Saints (5-1-1, 5-1-1 NCHA) and Foresters (3-3-1, 3-3-1 NCHA) will go at it again tomorrow at 4 p.m.
