WAVERLY, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team lost to host Wartburg College (Iowa) by a final score of 72-43 in the first round of the Buzz Levick Tip-Off Tournament late Friday night.
The first 10 minutes of the game saw Wartburg go out to a 21-9 lead led by hot 3-point shooting and costly turnovers on the part of the Saints.
CSS finally got to double digit scoring with 8:15 left in the half when
LaMonte Hall (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS (Saint Mary’s)) put in a layup to make the score 25-11 in favor of Wartburg.
Wartburg would outscore the Saints throughout the rest of the half finishing the last eight minutes on a 20-11 run making the halftime score 45-22. St. Scholastica committed 12 turnovers in the first half resulting in 17 Knight points.
Wartburg would start the second half on an 8-4 run and build its lead all the way as big as 31 points en route to an easy win over the Saints at 72-43.
To go with Laughlin's nine points, Hall and
Eastan Marleau (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) added seven points while
Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) added six for the Saints.
CSS (0-3) will next be in action tomorrow afternoon when it takes on Crown College in the consolation game at 2 p.m. again in Waverly, Iowa.
