WAVERLY, Iowa (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team entered Saturday's game on a program-record 17-game winning streak, but that ended in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament as 19th-ranked University of Chicago defeated the Saints 3-1 in snowstorm on the campus of Wartburg College.

With snow covering the field the entire game and flakes flying the Saints fell behind in the 15th minute when the Maroons' leading scorer Brenton-Neal Desai struck for a goal to make it 1-0 Chicago.

The Saints responded 10 minutes later when leading scorer Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) finished a pass from Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) to tie the contest at 1-1. The score at halftime would be 1-1.

CSS out-shot the Maroons 5-3 in the first 45 minutes, but each keeper only made one save in the half.

Chicago regained the lead quickly in the second half as it was Desai again scoring in the 48th minute to put the Maroons up 2-1. Chicago maintained much of the possession late in the game and put it away when Christoffer Mathis scored in the 85th minute to make the final score 3-1.

Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) had five saves in the loss for the Saints, while Hill Bonin had three saves in the victory for the Maroons. Chicago out-shot the Saints 10-5 in the second half and 13-10 for the game.

Chicago advances to face Wartburg College tomorrow in the second round. The Knights advanced to second round by defeating the Milwaukee School of Engineering in penalty kicks.

The Saints (20-3-0) finish with 20 wins for the first time this season and will have to say goodbye to the winningest senior class in program history. The seniors include all-time leading scorer Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) and defender Ben Cullen (Clough, Northern Ireland/Shimna Integrated College), who started in 88 of the possible 90 games in his career. Midfielder Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) and defender Erik Graham (Raade, Norway/Duluth Marshall School) are the other two seniors.
