DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team beat Marian University 4-1 on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

The Saints takedown started with a goal in the first period from
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and she was assisted by
Sami Anderson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS).
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) spoke up in the second with a goal assisted by
Brenna Smith (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)). Waidacher wasn't finished after her assist when she scored an unassisted goal in the third period to put the Saints up by two on Marian. Shortly after her first goal, Waidacher scored again and was assisted by Hanowski and
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS).

In her first collegiate start, goalie
Kristen Hunt (Winnipeg, Manitoba/West Kildonan) had 16 saves while allowing one goal on Saturday to earn the win. The Saints had three power plays in the first period.

Marian University had a lone goal scored by Amanda Waigand during her team's power play in the third. Waigand was unassisted. Goalie Amanda Alexander had 50 saves while allowing four goals on Saturday. The Sabres had three power plays against the Saints. Two of those came in the first period where they had three shots on goal. The Sabres scored and had three more shots on goal in their third period power play. Marian University's record falls to 0-2 after playing both games with the Saints to open their season.
