NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's soccer concluded its 2014 regular season with a 6-0 victory over Upper Midwest Athletic Conference rival Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon.
St. Scholastica's offense was clicking from the opening minutes of the game against Martin Luther.
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) put the Saints on top 1-0 in the eighth minute for his 14
th goal of the season.
Logan Tamke (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) picked up an assist on the goal.
In the 22
nd minute
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) doubled the St. Scholastica advantage with his 20
th goal of the season and in the 36
th minute he added another, his 21st, to push the Saints lead to 3-0. Farrar has now scored 4 goals over his last two matches. Folkes was credited with an assist on Farrar's second goal.
Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) came up big for the Saints making six saves in the half.
In the second half CSS would continue to produce goals starting with
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) scoring his 20
th goal of the year in the 64
th minute. Then in the 74
th minutes St. Scholastica struck twice within 6 seconds on goals from
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) and
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) giving CSS a 6-0 lead. Morgan got the assist on the Folkes goal.
The defense was in control the second half only allowing one shot, which was not on goal, to give Ballheimer his UMAC leading 12
th shutout of the season.
Caleb King made 10 saves on the day for the Knights.
With the win the Saints conclude their regular season with a record of 18-2 overall and 14-0 in the UMAC. CSS had three players with over 20 goals on the year with
Andrew Jenkins (Cardiff, Wales/Whitchurch HS) (24),
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) (21), and
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) (20).
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) and
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) also had the highest scoring seasons of their CSS career with 44 and 53 points respectively. Jenkins led the UMAC in goals (24) and points (55) this season. In his first season playing for the Saints,
Jacob Ballheimer (Gerrards Cross, England/Chalfonts Community College) led all UMAC goalkeepers with a goals-against average of 0.78.
St. Scholastica will next play in the Semi-Final game of the UMAC playoffs on Tuesday where, as the No.1 seed in the tournament, they will host the No.4 seed (TBD) at Saints Field with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
