Notables:- Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) and Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) continued their great play at the net for the Saints. Morrin led the team with a match-high 11 kills while Elvehjem contributed eight kills of her own.
- The Saints had two players with double-digit assists as Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had a game-high 18 assists and Emily Jansen (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) had 12 assists in the match.
- The win marks the 40th time in a row that CSS has defeated Northland College.
- All of the Saints' conference victories have been in straight sets.
DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team added another win in the UMAC as it swept Northland College on Wednesday night in straight sets 25-8, 25-18, and 25-14.
The Saints got off to a quick start in the first set going on a four point run. After going back and forth for the next few points, CSS went on another run, this time a six point run, to make it 12-3 and would force Northland to take a timeout. Later on in the set with the score 18-8, the Saints would finish off the set winning the next seven points to take the first set by a score of 25-8.
The second set would be a different story as both teams went back and forth with small runs of three points in the beginning. With CSS up 11-5, Northland took the offensive and took the next six points to even the score at 11-11. Both teams then went on another three point run to keep it tied up at 14. The Saints took control of the rest of the set, winning eight of the next 12 points to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The third set would be a lot like the first as Scholastica got off to another fast start, going on a couple of five point runs while scoring 11 of the first 13 points and taking an early 11-2 lead. CSS would never look back, going on to win the set 25-14 and winning the match in straight sets.
Morrin led all players with 11 kills with Elvehjem putting down eight.
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had a game-high 11 digs with Morrin having eight of her own. Cassie Baumgarten led the LumberJills with eight kills. Kelsey Bodart had 18 assists for Northland.
The Saints will continue UMAC play this weekend as they head on the road to take on North Central on Friday and Northwestern on Saturday.
