MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica Saints volleyball team started off its weekend right with a 3-0 sweep over the North Central University Rams at the CLC Gym in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Saints got going early against the Rams and never looked back, cruising to a 3-0 victory to start of their road trip this weekend. The first set was very one sided, with St. Scholastica's Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) and Jen Hortness (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) leading the way. CSS picked up right away again in the second set, starting off with a 6-0 lead. Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) had two early kills in the second set and the rest of the team followed suit to bulldoze their way to a 25-7 victory. The third set was no different than the previous two, as the Saints kicked off to an early 6-2 lead and closed it out strong, finishing with a final score of 25-14 to complete the sweep.

St. Scholastica's Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) proved to be the shining star in Friday night's game, as she recorded a team-high eight kills, eight blocks, and four aces. Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) tacked on seven kills herself, while Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) did most of the setting up tonight, finishing with a team-high 14 assists.

The Rams were led by Karlee Huber, who finished with five kills and eight digs in the contest. The biggest highlight of the night for NCU was when setter Elissa Pheneger recorded her 10000th collegiate assist.

The Saints will have a tough contest tomorrow, as they take on the Northwestern Eagles in St. Paul, Minn. The previous meeting between the two proved to be a great one, as the match went to five sets, with each team tied at 14 in the fifth set. Northwestern came out ahead and has yet to lose a conference game this year. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
