Volleyball Drops One on the Road

MENOMONIE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team dropped its match at the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Tuesday night by a 3-0 standoff in the Johnson Fieldhouse.
 
Leading the Saints offense on Tuesday were Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) with five kills, along with Hortness and Houser with four kills each. Defensively, Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) hustled for 11 digs against UW-Stout while Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) contributed seven set assists and an ace from the service line in Tuesday's loss. Emily Jansen (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) added six sets and two digs to the match.
 
The Saints dropped the first set of the match 25-16 with five kills, followed by a 25-15 effort while spiking the ball for a point seven different times, and went out with a valiant battle of 25-19 in the third set and swung for seven kills.
 
St. Scholastica's record falls back to .500 with a 9-9 overall record and remain at 4-2 in the UMAC.
 
On UW-Stout's side of the net, the offense was hot. Morgan Denny tallied 12 kills, three digs, and an ace in the victory. Following her was Ashley Pratt with 10 kills which was fueled by Karly Weinsch's 38 set assists. The defense covered almost every inch of the floor defensively with four players in the double digits on digs. UW-Stout improved its record to 14-6 overall.
 
St. Scholastica looks to get back up when it plays Northland College at home in the Reif Gymnasium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
