DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team jumped out to an early lead with three first period goals and never looked back as they down Marian University by a final score of 7-1 Friday night.
CSS got the scoring started in the first minute of the game when
Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) notched the first goal of the early season for the Saints just 54 seconds into the game.
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) and
Alex Blair (Drake, Saskatchewan/Lanigan Central HS) got the assists on the goal.
The Saints would get their second goal less than two minutes later when
Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) found the back of the net to put CSS up 2-0 just 3:01 into the first period. Logergren and Waidacher notched assists on the goal.
CSS would spread out their next two goals, both of them coming on the power play. Late in the first period Logergren put home her second goal of the season with an assists by Blair and Hanowski to make the score 3-0 Saints. Then with 14 minutes remaining in the second period, Waidacher notched her first goal of the season making the score 4-0 in favor of CSS.
CSS would add one more goal late in the second period to make the score 5-0 when
Anja Kadijevic (Zagreb, Croatia/General HS (Lindenwood)) scored an unassisted goal with just 2:25 left in the period.
Marian would score their lone goal at the 10:45 mark in the third period when Emily Everson scored an unassisted goal on Saints goaltender
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) to make the score 6-1 Saints.
CSS would score their last goal with about five minutes left in the game when
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) put the puck in the net on assists from
Madison Smith (Edmonton, Alberta/Vimy Ridge Academy (Spruce Grove Saints)) and
Ivy Smith (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS (St. Cloud State)) to set the final score at CSS 7 Marian 1.
Hartfiel had 17 total saves for the Saints while Logren led the team in shots taken with seven.
