DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-15, 30-28, 27-25) loss to the University of Minnesota-Morris on Friday night in Reif Gymnasium.
The Cougars got off to a hot start in the first set, taking 10 of the first 13 points. The Saints would inch back a little bit getting six of the next eight points to make it 13-9. Morris took over the set right afterwards going on a 5-0 run and they would not look back, winning the set by a score of 25-15.
The Saints would wake up to start the second half, going on a 4-0 run but Morris responded with a 3-0 run on its own. After both teams going back and forth, with the score 14 apiece, CSS went on another 4-0 run to make it 18-14 but later on Morris would make another mini-run to get within one, forcing the Saints to take a timeout with the score 21-20. The set would go into extra points as the Saints had a couple opportunities to take the set but were not able to do so. Morris finished the set winning the final three points to win 30-28.
The third set saw the Cougars go off on another good start as they won eight of the first 12 points to take an early 8-4 lead. CSS would claw their way back into it by matching every Morris points with a couple points of their own and later tied the set at 22-22 and at 25-25 apiece. The Cougars eventually came out on top taking the third set and the match by a score of 27-25.
