DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica Saints volleyball team defeated Crown College Saturday afternoon in their final regular season match by a score of 3 games to none at 25-6, 25-11, 25-5.

Game one saw CSS explode for the first eight points in its 25-6 win. Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) had a streak of three straight kills following Crown's first point to highlight the match where CSS played extremely well.

Game two began very much like the first with the Saints jumping out to a 7-0 lead from the get go. Crown did not go quietly in this game, however, as they rattled of a 6-2 run of their own to bring the margin down to just six points at 16-10. In the end the lead proved to be too great for Crown to overcome as CSS scored five straight points to end the game at 25-11.

The third game saw the Saints jump out to a 9-2 lead early on and rattle off the final 13 points to take the game 25-5 and win the match 3-0.

Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) and Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) led the Saints in digs with 12 and 10 respectively, and 43 of the 75 points scored by CSS came via the kill.

CSS (16-13, 10-4 UMAC) finished the regular season third in the UMAC standings behind Northwestern and the University of Minnesota-Morris. The Saints will now begin the playoffs traveling to Morris to take on the Cougars in UMAC semifinal action on Wednesday, November 5th . The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
