Killing It: Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) currently leads the UMAC in kills per set (3.19) for St. Scholastica…Morrin's season total of 284 kills ranks third overall in the UMAC…As a team CSS has totaled 1070 kills this season and is averaging 12.02 kills per set which is good enough for third among UMAC teams in both categories.
Defensive Contributions: The Saints'
Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) currently leads the UMAC in blocks per set with an average of 0.98…Additionally,
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) has added 335 digs on the year and ranks fifth in the UMAC in digs per set (3.85)…Both
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) (3.29) and
Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) (3.23) have averaged over three digs per set as well this season…CSS ranks second in the UMAC with a team average of 16.58 digs per set.
UMAC Success: St. Scholastica has been very good in conference games this season with a 9-3 UMAC record…The Saints will look to build upon that success to improve their position in the standings before the season ends…CSS currently sits just a game behind the University of Minnesota-Morris (10-2) for second place in the standings
Feast or Famine: Saints volleyball has been either winning or losing in bunches this season…CSS had a five-game losing streak from late August into their opening game of Pizza Hut Classic in September…The Saints then rattled off three straight wins to close the tournament that continued into three more consecutive victories to open conference play for a six-game win streak…St. Scholastica is hoping to ride its current three-game winning streak through the weekend games and into the UMAC playoffs.
Playoff Implications and Lucky Number 14: St. Scholastica has already secured a playoff spot in the UMAC Tournament but this weekend's games could affect its seeding…CSS is currently the third seeded team for the playoffs and the Cougars are the two seed… If the Saints are able to sweep Minnesota-Morris with a point differential of at least 14 points they would become the number two seed in the tournament bracket and Morris would drop to the third seed…St. Scholastica cannot claim the two seed with a win over the Cougars alone because Minnesota-Morris swept CSS in their first matchup this season with a point differential of 13.
Series History: St. Scholastica holds an all-time record of 23-12 against the Cougars...The Saints have lost their last three contests against Minnesota-Morris...CSS is a perfect 28-0 all-time against Crown College.
University of Minnesota-MorrisThe Cougars have had an excellent regular season holding a 10-2 conference record and 20-11 overall…Emily Auch leads the UMAC with 312 kills this season for Minnesota-Morris…Hannah Terhaar ranks second in the conference with 447 digs…The Cougars will end their regular season on Saturday with a contest against Northland College.
Crown CollegeCrown has found wins few and far between this season with an overall record of 4-19 and UMAC record of 2-10… Crown is currently on a seven-game losing streak…Katie Herrmann leads the Storm with 131 kills this season…Taylor Urcuyo leads the team in digs per set with an average of 3.33…The Storm conclude their regular season on Saturday against St. Scholastica.
