PREVIEW: Men's Hoops at Home again this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will be at the Reif Gymnasium again this weekend for a pair of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contests. 

Game Times:
Friday vs. Northwestern – 7:30 p.m.
Saturday vs. North Central – 5 p.m.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 6-10 (3-2 UMAC)
Head Coach: David Staniger
- The Saints are coming into this weekend on a two-game winning streak as they defeated Martin Luther last Friday 84-69 and then defeated Bethany Lutheran 86-84 in an overtime thriller last Saturday.
- The overtime win for the Saints over the Vikings was the first for program since December of 2010 at Finlandia University.
- Trevor Morlock (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS (Minn., Crookston)) had a great weekend for the Saints with a career-high 30 points in Friday's game, then following that up with a 26-point performance on Saturday.
- Morlock was recently named the UMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his performance last weekend.
- The Saints' past shooting woes were not to be seen last weekend, as they shot 48 percent in both games as well as shooting above 40 percent from behind the 3-point line.

University of Northwestern Eagles
Record: 7-9 (4-1 UMAC)
Head Coach: Tim Grosz
- Northwestern is coming off a weekend split between Minnesota Morris and Crown College, losing to the Cougars on Friday then coming back to defeat the Storm on Saturday. They come into this weekend tied for the UMAC lead with those two teams.
- Michael Carney leads the Eagles offensively with a 13.4 points per game average, followed by Will Gisler who is averaging 11 points a game.
- Blake Van Maanen is tied for second in the UMAC in 3-point percentage as he is shooting the long ball at 43.2 percent.
- The Eagles were picked to finish in a tie for second in the UMAC Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Poll.
Series History: (CSS is 24-44 vs. Northwestern)
- The Saints lost both of their matchups against the Eagles last season.


North Central University Rams
Record: 6-8 (0-5 UMAC)
Head Coach: Jon High
- The Rams are still looking for their first conference win as they lost both of their games last weekend against Crown and Minnesota Morris.
- North Central has three players averaging double figures, led by Luke Chafin's 15.9 average (fifth in UMAC) and followed by Bryce Burkman and Jordan Harrell, who are averaging 13.4 and 11.1 points per game respectively.
- Burkman recently eclipsed the 1,000 point scoring mark in their game against the Cougars.
- Harrell and Burkman are first and second in the conference in field goal percentage as Harrell is shooting 65.1 percent and Burkman is shooting 57.6 percent from the field.
- The Rams were picked to finish in a tie for second with Northwestern in the UMAC Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Poll.

- The Saints split the season series with the Rams last season with both teams winning on their home court.
