Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The 15th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team skated to its second consecutive tie and fourth of the season Friday night, tying No. 1-ranked Adrian College (Mich.) 1-1.
The Saints scored first, midway through the opening period, as
Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) found the back of the net.
Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) was credited with the assist. The Saints out-shot the Bulldogs 14-9 in the first period.
Adrian out-shot the Saints 11-9 in the second, but CSS goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) stopped all 11 shots as the Saints took their 1-0 lead into the third period.
Six minutes into the third period, Kevin Balas scored the equalizer for the Bulldogs. The score remained 1-1 at the end of regulation and the contest went to overtime.
In overtime, the Saints had a faceoff in Adrian's end with four seconds remaining and won the draw, but the shot went wide and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Both teams finished with 35 shots. Bruggeman had 34 saves for the Saints, while Scott Shackell had 34 saves for the Bulldogs. This was the first meeting between the two programs.
