PREVIEW:Volleyball Travels to Washington this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will join the football team in Spokane, Wash. this weekend as it takes part in the Whitworth University Classic on Friday and Saturday.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 2-2
Head Coach: Dana Moore 

-The Saints are looking to get back into the win column after coming off of two losses at the SMU Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic in Winona against UW-La Crosse and Saint Mary's.
-A very balanced offensive attack has been led by Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS), Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)), and Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) with 42, 38, and 33 kills respectively; setter Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) leads the team with 123 assists as well as service aces with 11.
-Defensively, Morrin leads the team with 61 digs and Ohaju leads the team with 12 blocks.
-Horbacz is playing well coming off of two consecutive good matches with 16 and 15 kills against La Crosse and Saint Mary's.
-In terms of the UMAC, Morrin leads the conference early in the season in kills per set at 4.36. Birkeland leads the conference in service aces per set at 0.79.

#19 College of Saint Benedict Blazers
Record: 5-0
Head Coach: Nicole Hess

-The 19th-ranked Blazers have started their season off strong winning all five of their matches.
-All five of their wins have come as a result of sweeps.
-St. Ben's has made the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons, advancing to the regional final last season before falling in four sets to eventual national champion St. Thomas.
-The Blazers also have a balanced offensive attack with four players who have 30 kills or more on the year so far, led by Lexi Alm with 44. Taya Kockelman leads the team with assists with a total of 137.
-The Blazers have also been stellar defensively with four players having 30 or more digs on the year, led by Chelsea Rachel with 38.
 
Series History: (CSS is 16-8 vs. St. Ben's)
-The Blazers swept the Saints in two matches last season.
-CSS defeated St. Ben's in five sets in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

Whitman College Missionaries
Record: 1-4
Head Coach: Matt Helm

-The Missionaries started off the season with four straight losses, but earned their first victory of the year on Monday night.
-Jillian Davis was named to All-Tournament Team at the Puget Sound Tournament in Tacoma, Washington.
-Davis also leads the team in kills with 38 on the year so far. She is also second on the team in digs with 46.
-The setter position has had split time between Taylor Aschenbrenner who has 68 assists and Rachel Cline who has 57.
 
Series History: (CSS is 0-0 vs. Whitman)
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.

Whitworth University Pirates
Record: 1-3
Head Coach: Kati Bodecker

-The Pirates started off their season on a three-game losing streak before winning their first game of the year on Sunday.
-Jalana White has 60 kills to lead the offense, followed by Nicole Leonard with 45 and Kristine Kardell with 44.
-Maddye Dinsmore handles all the setting duties with 156 assists on the year.
-Leonard also is the leader on the defensive side with 70 digs. 
 
Series History: (CSS is 0-0 vs. Whitworth)
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
