Volleyball Drops Match To Morris

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team lost its second conference game of the season to Minnesota-Morris Sunday afternoon at Reif Gymnasium.

The Cougars (10-6, 4-0 UMAC), who are in the first place in the UMAC, started the first set strong with a quick 4-1 run. The rest of the set was back and forth with the Saints getting within two points late before falling 25-21 in the first half.

The second set saw the Saints go on a 5-0 run early on to take a 9-6 lead. Morris would respond with a 4-0 run of their own to tie it at 12 apiece. After Morris took a slight lead later on, CSS would go on another 5-0 run to get to a set-point and ended up winning the set 29-27.

The Saints would start off the third set slowly as Morris had a 12-3 run to start the set and would never look back as they took the set 25-16.

The fourth set would see the Cougars start off strong again as they had a 7-2 run. Morris would later go on a 9-2 run to make the score 22-9. The Saints would not go away by responding with a 10-2 run of their own and getting within five before losing the set and match.

Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) led the Saints with 12 kills and Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 34 assists in the match. The Cougars were led by Abby Tietz 16 kills.

The Saints will be at home again next weekend as they take on Bethany Lutheran Friday night at 7 p.m. and follow that up with a match against Martin Luther Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. You can catch all the action live on Saints Sports Net.
