DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team kicked off Homecoming Saturday by defeating Crown College 3-0.
The first set would start out close, but the Saints would pull away from the Storm by going on a six point run to go up 11-4. CSS would then go on a 7-2 run to go up 18-7, and finish out the set up 25-14.
The second set was characterized by much of the same play as the first, with the set being tied at 5-5 and the Saints again pulling away by going on a five point run to go up 10-5. Then, Saints were up 18-10, when
Taylor Orhn (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway HS) would serve eight in a row to close out the set 25-10.
CSS and Crown would battle for the lead throughout the third set, with the set being tied up for the sixth time at 17-17 when the Saints would go on a 8-1 run to clinch the final set 25-19.
Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) led the Saints with 12 kills, while
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) added 11 kills as well as seven digs.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) also recorded a team high 33 assists.
The Saints are now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in UMAC play while Crown drops to 0-16 overall and 0-3 in the UMAC.
CSS will be back in action at home when it faces the University of Minnesota Morris on Sunday at noon. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
