Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team defeated North Central University by a score of 3-0 to capture their first UMAC win of the 2013 season.
The Saints started things off by going up 8-2 early in the first set. They would then go on a seven point run, to tally a score of 21-6, would take the first set by a score of 25-9.
CSS would continue in similar fashion in the second set, going up 8-2 again. The Saints would then go on a six point run to go up 14-3 and would close out the set winning 25-8.
The third set was tied at 12-12 when the Saints would pull ahead by going on a 10-1 run, going up 22-13, and taking the third and final set 25-16.
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) and
Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) led the Saints with 10 kills,
Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) followed with nine and
Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) chipped in eight.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 41 assists and four service aces, while
Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) added 11 digs.
The Saints are now 1-1 in UMAC play and 4-7 overall while the Rams are 1-1 in the UMAC and 4-12 overall.
CSS will continue UMAC conference play when they return home to face Crown on Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at the Reif Gymnasium. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
