DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will be traveling to St. Paul, when it takes on the Eagles of Northwestern at 7 p.m. Friday night to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The Saints will then face North Central University on Saturday.

St. Scholastica Saints

-Coming off a tough loss against 15th ranked Saint Benedict Saturday, the Saints are looking for a win against Northwestern, who defeated the Saints in the UMAC Tournament Championship last season.
-After winning their first two matches of the season, the Saints have dropped six out of their last seven with the lone win coming against Whitman (Wash.) in four sets.
-In the win against Whitman,
Alex Barsody (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) led the Saints with 20 digs in the match. In three matches in Washington, Barsody recorded at least 18 digs in three of them.
-In the loss to St. Ben's, the Saints had a season-high .198 hitting percentage, but surrendered a season-high hitting percentage of .346.
Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) leads the conference with 13 solo blocks and is second in the UMAC, averaging 0.97 blocks per set.

University of Northwestern Eagles

-The Eagles are currently riding a hot streak winning three out of their last four matches with the only loss coming against 19th ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
-Before this streak of success, Northwestern opened the season with losses in eight of its first nine matches.
-Statistically, several players are doing quite well. Lexi Bertsch is currently second in the UMAC in total digs (219) and digs per set (4.56)
-Maybe even better is the fact that two Northwestern players are currently leading the conference in two categories. Blocks per set is currently led by Cari Miller (1.3), while assists per set is led by Krista Stoltz (10.38).
-The Eagles are the unanimous favorite to win the UMAC again this season after earning its first NCAA Tournament victory in 2012.
Series History: (CSS is 43-44-1 vs. Northwestern)
-As of late in the 2009 season, the series has been fairly even with both teams posting a 5-5 record in their last 10 meetings.
-The one tie came way back in 1981 when the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
-The teams have met last five years in the UMAC Tournament championship with the Eagles holding a 3-2 edge. |

North Central University Rams

-The Rams will play Northland to enter conference play on Friday before taking on the Saints on Saturday.
-As of this writing, North Central has lost six out of their last seven with the sole win coming over Emmaus University in Milwaukee, Wis. with a final of three sets to one.
-Jamie High is currently fifth in the UMAC with 2.67 kills per set and fourth in total kills with 123.
-Abby Osmundson is second in the conference with .058 service aces per set.
-The Rams have been picked to finish sixth in the league this year. North Central was 1-13 in 2012.
