DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team needed a late penalty kick to pull even against the Augsburg Auggies as the teams settled for a 2-2 draw after playing regulation and two overtime periods Saturday afternoon at Saints Field in the 2013 Advantage Emblem Cup.

CSS opened up the scoring in the 17th minute with a break-away goal from Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) off of an Augsburg turnover.  Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) assisted on the goal for the Saints.  Augsburg would hit the post just a minute later, but the ball would roll away for a corner kick which would be cleared away just seconds later.

In the 35th minute the Auggies would tie the game with a goal from Carter Denison.  The teams would head into the locker room knotted up 1-1.

After 28 minutes of back and forth action, the Auggies would tally a goal in the 73rd minute on a header into the upper right corner beating Saints keeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ).  Kehtel would record her second goal of the contest and year with a nicely driven penalty kick to beat the Auggie goalkeeper in the 75th minute.

The teams would end regulation tied up at 2-2.  Just 53 seconds into the first overtime period Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) had a well struck shot blocked by the Auggie keeper.  The only offensive threat for Augsburg in the first overtime session was a corner kick in the 100th minute which was steered away from danger.

In the second overtime session the Saints had several opportunities to take the lead, but all were saved by the Auggie keeper as the teams would end the game in a 2-2 tie.

Augsburg had 18 total shots on the day with 10 on goal.  Keeper Katie Gajewski had three saves in five shots faced.

CSS finished the day with nine shots, five on goal.  Reeves saved 8-of-10 shots faced.  Mitchell led the Saints with three shots on goal followed by Kehtel and Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) with two shots on goal.

Augsburg (1-0-1) had the advantage in corners 8-6, but did commit nine fouls on the day compared to the Saints' five. Kehtel, Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) and Mitchell were named to the all-tournament team for the Saints. Loras College (Iowa) won the women's side after defeating UW-Superior today 7-0.

St. Scholastica (0-1-1) will head to the Cobber Classic next weekend to face Concordia College (Minn.) on Saturday and then will face Simpson College (Iowa) on Sunday.  Tune into csssaints.com for updates from these games.
