| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WINONA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After picking up two wins in Northfield on Friday; the Saints dropped a pair of matches to UW-La Crosse and Saint Mary's University on Saturday at the SMU Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic.

Saints vs. UW-La Crosse
The Saints opened with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and fell in three sets to the Eagles. The Eagles (3-1) pulled away in the middle of the first set to win 25-22 and then late in the second to win 25-20. CSS tried to stay alive in the third set rallying to tie it at 21-21. With the score tied at 24-24, the Saints would have a service error and an attack error to lose the set and the match 26-24.

Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) led the Saints with 15 kills. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 32 assists and Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the team with 13 digs.

Saints vs. Saint Mary's
The second match of the day saw the Saints drop a four set match to the host, Saint Mary's University.

In the opening set, CSS rallied to tie it at 21-21, but the Cardinals (2-2) rattled off four straight points to take the set 25-21. The Saints evened up the match by taking the second set 25-23.

The third set would be tied at 22-22 and just like the opening set; the Cardinals recorded three straight points to regain control of the match, winning 25-22. That third set seemed to take the wind out of CSS's sails as Saint Mary's controlled the fourth set to take the match 25-19.

Horbacz again led the Saints with 16 kills. Morrin added 10 kills. Birkeland registered 28 assists, while Kirsten Eaton (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had 14 assists. Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) led the team with 20 digs.

The Saints (2-2) will be in action next in the Great Northwest as the team travels to Spokane, Wash. to take part in the Whitworth University Invitational next Friday and Saturday. CSS will face the College of Saint Benedict and Whitman College (Wash.) on Friday.
