Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team was out-shot by No. 11 Loras College (Iowa) 18-5 Friday afternoon on its way to a 1-0 loss in the season opening Advantage Emblem Cup at Saints Field.
The Duhawks defeated the Saints 2-0 in the first round of the 2012 NCAA Division III Tournament, ending the Saints' season. Loras was eventually eliminated in the third round of the tournament.
The Duhawks came out strong to start the game, not allowing a shot until the 21st minute. The Saints had just two shots in the first half to Loras' nine. However, Loras was unable to convert on any of their first half attempts, as
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) and the Saints defense held fast to keep the score even at 0-0.
Loras continued to apply the pressure in the second half, and the lone goal of the contest came in the 68th minute as Jaclyn Tumberger found the upper left corner of the net on an assist from Shelby Perkins to give Loras the 1-0 lead. The goal would prove to be enough for the Duhawks as they allowed just one Saints shot after scoring, as the contest would finish with a 1-0 score.
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) saved five shots in the loss for the Saints, and Duhawk keeper Hannah Wilson recorded her first shutout of the season with one save.
