Box Score DE PERE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team was unable to keep the momentum going in the NCHA Peters Cup Semifinals at fifth-ranked St. Norbert College, falling to the two-time defending NCAA Division III National Champion 2-1 on Saturday night.
All of the scoring would take place in the second period. After St. Norbert out shot the Saints 12-4 in the opening period, the Green Knights (22-5-1) struck first with a Sam Higgins goal one minute and 43 seconds into the second period.
The Saints then tied it up with less than 12 minutes to play in the period on a
Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) goal.
Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) and
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) had the assists. The Green Knights answered less than three minutes later when Mason Baptista ended up scoring what turned out to be the game-winner to make it 2-1.
CSS came out strong in the third period, out-shooting the Green Knights 10-2, but could not find the back of the net as the season came to an end by a final of 2-1.
Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) made 25 saves in the loss for the Saints, while David Jacobson also had 25 saves in the win for the Green Knights. St. Norbert moves on to face regular season champion UW-Eau Claire in the Peters Cup Finals next Saturday in Eau Claire.
