Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St Scholastica women's basketball team made it three straight wins defeating Finlandia University (Mich.) Saturday 83-55 at the Reif Gymnasium.
Mariah Hovick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) started off the game on a positive note with a jumper inside the paint in the first minute of the game. This solid inside and outside shooting helped the Saints go on a few runs to secure the score for the half.
After the 6:15 mark, the Saints didn't drop below their 10-point lead to finish the half with a score of 37-22.
Elena Huber (Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) led the Saints with 10 points in the half followed by
Kelsey Sorenson-Giffrow (Braham, Minn./Braham HS (Minn. Duluth)) and Hovick who both chipped in seven points. The Saints shot 45 percent from the field and 27 percent from the 3-point line overall. Brierra Ruska led the Lions for the half with eight points.
Huber kept up the shooting and scored the first eight points for the Saints to start the second half. This set the Saints ahead by 18 points and they didn't drop below this lead for the rest of the half.
The Saints had an impressive field percentage of 47 percent to end the half and 44 percent for the game to set them apart from Finlandia.
The Lions once again struggled defensively as the Saints scored in the 80-point range like all of Finlandia's opponents have done this season. The Lions struggled throughout the whole game to make their shots in the paint and from the free throw line. They ended the game at 63 percent from the charity strip.
Huber finished with a career-high 18 points for the Saints. Hovick ended the game with 14 points and was followed by Sorenson with 10 points.
Emily Glomski (Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia/Dhahran HS) also had 10 points off the bench. The CSS bench out-scored the Finlandia bench 31-3.
Even rebounding throughout the team also helped the Saints have a 52-29 advantage on the glass. Brierra Ruska led the Lions (2-6) with 18 points. Paige Yoho added 14 points.
The Saints (3-4) will be on the road next Saturday when they face Augsburg College at 3 p.m.
