WAUSAU, Wis. (csssaints.com) – Junior Sharmila Ahmed (Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) led the St. Scholastica nordic skiing team in sixth place for the second straight day in the women's 5km classic at the Aspirus Junior Olympic Qualifier Sunday.

Ahmed posted a time 18:29.8, in her second start of the season, in a race won by Northern Michigan's 2013 All-American, Rosie Frankowski in a time of 17:20.9.  Michigan Tech's Deedra Irwin finished second in 17:50.7 with NMU's Felicia Gesior clocking 18:16.1 to round out the top three.

Senior Sarah Allen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Northern Michigan)) finished ninth for the Saints in her second start of the year in a time of 18:46.6, while Chelsey Youngberg (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) finished 11th in a time of 19:03.5.

"Every start is a good thing and I could see a little more race fitness today in our women," said Saints head coach Chad Salmela. "This weekend was all about building racing fitness, and our women skied a little better again today, which is what we are looking for right now. I'm very pleased."

The Saints women now go on break and will come together for the team's Christmas Break camp on January 5th at Giants Ridge.  Their next college competition will be the Minnesota College Championships on January 11th.
