HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – Senior
Brooke Adams (Spooner, Wis./Spooner HS ) posted a seventh place finish, eighth overall, in at time of 35:32 to lead the St. Scholastica women's skiing team Saturday in the Michigan Tech Christmas Classic.
Northern Michigan's 2013 All-American, Rosie Frankowski out-classed the collegiate field by nearly two minutes in a time of 32:00, but open-class redshirt, Jordyn Ross came closest in second overall, with a time of 33:21. Second in the college field went to Michigan Tech's Alice Flanders in 33:58, while NMU's Mary Kate Cirelli rounded out the collegiate top 3 in 34:40.
Sophomore
Chelsey Youngberg (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) finished 11th (13th overall) in a time of 36:02, while junior
Liz Peterson (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) finished 13th (15th overall) in a time of 36:20, to round out the scoring for the Saints.
Northern Michigan won the meet with a score of 40, Michigan Tech was second with 34, and the Saints finished third with 27.
"It was a great early season performance, I thought," according to Saints head coach
Chad Salmela. "Brooke and Liz each stepped up with one of the strongest races I've seen from them as Saint, which is awesome. We came here with two of our strongest skiers absent, and we had great presence with how we skied. Great start to the competitive season for sure."
The Saints continue competition at Michigan Tech Sunday with a 5km classic.
