Saints Tripped up by Johnnies

Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team dropped its second game of the season Friday by a 3-2 score against Saint John's University at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

The Saints got the scoring started as Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) found the back of the net less than five minutes into the contest. Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) and Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) had the assists. The Johnnies tied it midway through the opening period on a Phil Johnson goal.

Saint John's took its first lead of the night six minutes into the second period on a Dave Mylrea tally. CSS's Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) responded 25 seconds later with his second goal in three games to make it 2-2 at the end of the second period. Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) was credited with an assist.

After the Saints were unable to capitalize on a Saint John's major penalty, the lone goal of the third period belonged to the Johnnies as Joe Freemark netted the game-winner four minutes and 43 seconds into the period.

Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 18 saves in his first loss of the season, while Saxton Soley had 24 saves in the win for the Johnnies (6-6-0).

The Saints (8-2-2) will be at home tomorrow night when they host sixth-ranked University of St. Thomas at Mars Lakeview Arena to close out the first half. The puck drops at 7 p.m. The action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
