Men's Hockey Ties Again

Box Score MEQUON, Wisconsin (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team tied for the second night in a row against Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon with a 4-4 score.

Concordia got the scoring started with a power play goal about midway through the first period. A couple minutes later, Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) put in a power play goal for the Saints to tie it up with Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) assisting on the goal. With a minute and a half remaining in the period, Concordia would score to take a 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Saints came out in full force to start the second period as Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) scored just a minute into the period to tie the game up again. Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) and Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) got assists. The action would go back and forth for a while until Valenti gave the Saints their first lead of the game with Sutliffe and Millin picking up the assists. The Saints would keep it going as they would score five minutes later, this one coming from Millin off assists from Brandon Parrone (Peoria, Ariz./Brophy College Prep (Melfort-SJHL) ) and Sutliffe. Concordia would score another late period goal to get one back and the Saints took a 4-3 lead going into the third period.

Concordia would keep the momentum going in the third period as they scored a minute and a half in to tie the game up. That would be the end of the scoring as both teams had chances the rest of the period and in the five minute overtime.

Sutliffe and Millin led the Saints with a goal and two assists apiece and Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) made 29 saves. Brett Penner had two goals for Concordia and Jake Hebda had 37assists.

The Saints have their home opener next weekend as they host Finlandia on Friday. The action starts at 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
