Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The 13th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored three first period goals and never looked back in a 6-2 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.) Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) got the scoring started for the Saints just 2:44 into the game putting the puck into the back of the net with Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) recording the assists.  About five minutes later, Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) recorded the second Saints goal with Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) and Derek Hills (Campbell River, British Columbia/Timberline Secondary (Bowling Green State) ) grabbing the assists.  The Saints would notch their third goal with 56 seconds remaining in the first period.  Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) tallied the goal with Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) and Malenstyn getting the assists.

The Saints had a goal negated early in the second period, but that did not slow them down as they went on to score two more goals.  The first goal was scored by B. Nowakowski on a power play at the 7:42 mark assisted by D. Nowakowski and Williams. Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) would grab the second goal of the period with assists by Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) and Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ).

Finlandia scored its first goal of the game late in the second period when Cody Essel put the puck past Saints goalie Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Saints.

In the third period, the Lions added another goal in the 13th minute when Shigenobu Kakudate took a Ryan Daavettila pass and put in past Bruggeman to make the score 5-2 Saints.

Williams would add his second goal of the game on a power play in the final two minutes of the contest to set the final score at 6-2 St. Scholastica.

Bruggeman finished the night with 15 saves on 17 shots while Finlandia goalie Troy Chandler stopped 37 of St. Scholastica's 43 shots on goal.

The Saints (3-0-2, 3-0-2 NCHA) and Lions (0-5, 0-3 NCHA) will play game two of their series tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.  Catch the action live on Saints Sports Net.
