PREVIEW: Women's Soccer Looking for Wisconsin Magic Again

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team will be back in the same state as its first NCAA Division III Tournament game as the Saints travel to Wisconsin to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 18-2-1 (14-0-0 UMAC)

-St. Scholastica returns to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second consecutive year and the sixth time in the last seven years. Last season, the Saints were defeated 2-0 in the first round by 19th-ranked Loras College (Iowa).
-The lone NCAA Tournament victory for the Saints came in 2007, a 1-0 victory over Carroll College (Wis.) (now Carroll University). The game took place in Wisconsin, which is the only time the Saints have played a NCAA postseason game in Wisconsin.
-Since that win, CSS has only scored three goals in the past five NCAA Tournament games and two of those were against a third-ranked Trinity University (Texas) squad in 2011.
-The Saints enter the tournament on an 18-game winning streak, which is the second-longest streak in program history.
-Numerous Saints received conference accolades this season. For the third straight year, junior Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Offensive Player of the Year and senior Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named the Defensive Player of the Year. The Saints had eight players selected amongst the two teams and 11 players honored overall.
-Kehtel is one of only four players to have scored at least 30 goals in NCAA Division III this season. She has recorded at least one point in 13 straight games and has been held pointless just three times this year.
-The CSS defense has been dominant this season, giving up just eight goals on the season (six of which came out of conference).
-Goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) missed most of the middle portion of the regular season due to injury, but since returning on October 25th, she allowed just one goal in 540 minutes of action. She has a total of eight shutouts this season.
-The Saints are currently ranked second in NCAA Division III in points per game (13.1) and hold the third-best scoring offense in the nation (4.57 goals/game).

#16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks
Record: 16-0-4 (8-0-0 MIAC)
Head Coach: Ryan Quamme
-The Warhawks make their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament after winning the WIAC Regular Season Championship for the fourth consecutive season last week.
-UW-Whitewater is ranked 13th in the D3soccer.com poll and 16th in the NSCAA poll.
-Whitewater has not lost a game this season, and it is currently riding a three-game winning streak.  Most recently, the Warhawks defeated UW-Oshkosh 1-0 on Saturday in the WIAC Tournament Championship game for their second consecutive tournament title.
-UW-Whitewater has allowed multiple goals just three times this season, and have recorded nine shutouts. The Warhawk defense has been rock solid recently, with two consecutive shutouts.
-The Warhawks have been led by Brianna Reid, who has 12 goals and five assists on the year. The Whitewater offense has five players with double digit points.
-UW-Whitewater has dominated the second half of games, outscoring opponents 27-6.

-This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.


University of Chicago Maroons
Record: 11-4-3 (3-2-2 UAA)
Head Coach: Amy Reifert
-The University of Chicago looks to rebound from a 2-0 loss to No. 1-ranked Washington-St. Louis in the regular season finale on Saturday. Previously, the Maroons had not lost in their past five contests.
-The Maroons have been led on offense by Sara Kwan, who has eight goals and eight assists on the year. Chicago has five players with double digit points, although no player has double digit goals or assists.
-The Chicago defense has played well this season. The Maroons have recorded seven shutouts and given up multiple goals just four times this season.
-The Maroons received an at-large bid for the DIII NCAA Tournament, reaching the postseason for the 13th time in program history. Previously, Chicago has not reached the tournament since 2010.
-The University of Chicago ranks No. 25 in the latest D3Soccer.com national poll.

Capital University Crusaders
Record: 16-4-1 (7-2-0 OAC)
Head Coach: Chris Kouns
-Capital clinched an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, following a 4-0 defeat of John Carroll. The Crusaders captured their second Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship in the past three seasons.
-The Crusaders are currently riding a six-game winning streak, and have not allowed a goal in the past three contests.
-Capital has been led by the trio of Hilary Ells, Jamie Murray and Becca Cartmill. Ells has 14 goals on the season, while Murray has eight goals and four assists. Cartmill has four goals and ten assists.
-Capital has had less success on the road this season, with a 4-2-1 away record versus a 12-1 record at home. The Crusaders also lost their only neutral field game of the season.
-Like the University of Chicago, Capital has also been a second half team, outscoring opponents 25-6 in the latter 45 minutes.
