Volleyball Falls to Martin Luther

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Martin Luther College on Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium.

The first set would remain close with the teams being tied at 10-all and again at 18-all. Martin Luther would pull away from the Saints by going on a three point run to win the set 25-23.

The Saints were ahead 7-5 in the first set when they would go on a 5-1 run to go up 12-6. Martin Luther would chip away at the Saints' lead, and go on a 10-1 run to win the set again by a score of 25-23.

After being down five to start the third set, CSS would battle back to get within three of the Knights. The Knights would then go on a seven point run to win the final set 25-15.

Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the Saints with 10 kills, while Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) added eight kills. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added 25 assists and Emily Cole (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (UW-Superior)) recorded 11 digs. Rebecca Engelbrecht led the Knights (10-8, 4-2 UMAC) with 20 kills.

The Saints (6-9, 3-3 UMAC) look to get in the win column when they travel to Northland College on Wednesday; game time is set for 7 p.m.
