DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team topped the Bethany Lutheran Vikings 3-0 at the Reif Gymnasium on Friday.

The Saints jumped out to an 8-6 lead in the first set, and would go on a 6-2 run to go up 14-8. The Saints would continue to chip away at the Vikings, and finished out the set up 25-14.

CSS gained the lead early on in the second set as well, going up 9-4. Then, after being up 17-11, CSS would go on an 8-1 run to take the second set 25-12.

The third set started out close, but the Saints would pull away from the Vikings by going on a 9-1 run, to go up 13-4. Later on, they would go on a 6-1 run to go up 23-10 to win the set 25-13.

Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) and Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) led the Saints with eight kills a piece. Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) added 25 assists while Gloria Ohaju (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) had two solo blocks and five block assists in the victory.

Bethany Lutheran is now 2-3 in UMAC play and 3-15 overall.

The Saints (6-8, 3-2 UMAC) are back at home Saturday, where they face Martin Luther College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Reif Gymnasium. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
