PREVIEW: Volleyball to Wrap up UMAC Play this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will finish the regular season on the road this weekend when it takes on Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato Friday night and Martin Luther College Saturday in New Ulm.

St. Scholastica Saints
Record:
 12-14 (7-5 UMAC)
Head Coach: Dana Moore
-St. Scholastica is currently fourth in the UMAC standings. The Saints need to win one match this weekend to clinch a UMAC Tournament spot. The Saints could climb as high as the No. 3 seed with a pair of wins and a convincing sweep of Martin Luther on Saturday.
-The Saints have won three matches in a row and four of their last six overall.  Three out of the four wins have come in conference play. The two losses have against the top of the league, losing in five sets to Minnesota Morris and in four to Northwestern.
-Sophomore Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) currently leads the team in kills with 299.  That mark is also good enough to put her in third place for the conference as well. She is second in the league, averaging 3.29 kills per set.
-Morrin had 21 kills and 18 digs in the team's five-set victory over UW-Superior on Wednesday.
-Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) has moved up to fourth in the league in hitting percentage (.255). She has hit below .200 just twice in the last eight matches.

Bethany Lutheran College Vikings
Record: 6-19 (5-7 UMAC)
Head Coach: John Olmanson
-The Vikings need to win both matches, including a decisive sweep of CSS, also hope St. Scholastica falls to Martin Luther on Saturday to clinch a UMAC Tournament spot.
-Bethany Lutheran had only one win in its first 14 matches.
-In league play, the Vikings have either swept its opponents or have been swept with exception of losing 3-1 at Minnesota Morris in September.
-Kasslin Swanson leads the team with 161 kills and has 19 service aces in league play, which is good for third.
-Jessi Jurries is currently fourth in the UMAC with 319 digs while teammate Miranda Krenske is second on the team with 171.
Series History: (CSS is 14-8 vs. Bethany Lutheran)
-The Saints have won 11 in a row dating back to Halloween of 2008.
-The last loss for the Saints came in a five set grinder where the Vikings came out victorious 3-2.


Martin Luther College Knights
Record: 15-11 (8-4 UMAC)
Head Coach: Rebecca Cox
-Martin Luther locked up a UMAC tournament bid with a win over Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday night. The Knights can finish either third or fourth in the league.
-Rebecca Engelbrecht is currently leading the conference in kills with 366, and is averaging over 4 kills per set.
-Alex Anthon is third in the league with 331 digs, while Miranda Maasz is second in the conference averaging 10.12 assists per set.
-The Knights have 90 blocks in conference matches this season, which is second best in the UMAC.

Series History: (CSS is 27-32 vs. Martin Luther)
-The Saints have lost two out of their last three matches against the Knights.
-The Saints had an eight-match winning streak from 2009-2012where they beat the Knights 3-0 in every match in that span.
