Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team won the UMAC regular season title as they beat Crown 7-1 at a rainy Saints Field Saturday afternoon.
The Storm got a quick start as they converted on a breakaway off a Saints turnover to take an early 1-0 lead. The Saints answered back five minutes later with
Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) placing a shot beautifully into the top right corner of the net to tie the game up. Kehtel would score again off a
Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) pass during a scramble in front of the net and followed that up with another goal just one minute later, this one coming off a cross from
Claire Lubansky (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS). The rest of the half was dominated by the Saints and extended their lead to 4-1 with Kehtel scoring her fourth of the game to lead the Saints into halftime.
The Saints dominant play was evident in the shots as they had 22 compared to Crown's one.
The second half saw the Saints jump right out of the gate, scoring just 15 seconds in as Kasey Mitchell scored her tenth of the season. About ten minutes later, a Saints cross would go off a Crown defender and into the corner of the net for an own goal to put the Saints up 6-1. Later Kehtel would notch her fifth goal of the game off another assist from Lubansky.
The Saints dominant play continued for the second half as they had 16 shots and held Crown to no shots. The Saints also dominated corner kicks with a 10-0 advantage.
The next action for the Saints will be Wednesday afternoon in River Falls, Wisconsin as they take on the UW-River Falls. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
