Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's volleyball team defeated North Central University 3-0 on Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium.
The Saints would start off strong as
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) would serve 11 in a row to put the Saints up 13-2. Then,
Emily Cole (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (UW-Superior)) would serve seven straight and the Saints would take the first set 25-7.
CSS started out the second set up 5-0, and would continue the set in similar fashion, going on another five-point run and two four-point runs to take the set 25-8.
The third set was all Saints as Benusa would again put the Saints ahead by serving eight in a row to go up 11-1.
Tannyr Heyl (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS (Saint Benedict)) would then serve seven in a row to put the Saints up 19-3, with the Saints taking the set 25-5.
Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the Saints with nine kills while
Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) added eight kills.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) was credited with 24 assists, and Benusa led the Saints with 17 digs.
The Saints improve to 10-14 overall and are 6-5 in the UMAC while the Rams drop to 5-24 and 1-11 in the UMAC.
CSS is back at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader, facing off against Northland College at 6 p.m. and The University of Wisconsin Superior at 7:30 p.m. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
