Saints Take Care of Northwestern

Box Score ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team saw its shutout streak come to an end, but it didn't matter as the Saints cruised to a 9-1 victory over the University of Northwestern on Friday at Reynolds Field.

Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) got the scoring started for the Saints only four minutes and seven seconds into the contest. The Eagles answered with a goal from Jordan Skarin over two minutes later to tie it at 1-1.The goal allowed by the Saints was the first in 10 matches, spanning 857 minutes and seven seconds.

It remained tied until the 31st minute when Claire Lubansky (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) found the back of the net as she was assisted by Williamson to make it 2-1. Kelsey Kehtel (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored her 13th goal of the season 23 seconds later. Kaylee Benson (Nowthen, Minn./Anoka HS) had the assist. The final goal of the first half was on a Casey Mitchell (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) free kick in the 36th minute to make the halftime score 4-1. For Mitchell it was her sixth straight game with a goal and her 10th straight game with at least one point.

Mitchell scored her second goal of the contest less than five minutes into the second half to make it 5-1. Lubansky assisted the goal. Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) netted her eighth goal of the season and ran her point streak to eight games in the 53rd minute.

Leah Hamm (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) tallied her sixth goal in the last three games in the 81st minute. In the 84th minute, Lauren Lynch (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) scored her first collegiate goal on a penalty shot. The final score of the day came in the 86th minute as Jalyn Britton (Eagan, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) netted her fourth goal of the season to make the final 9-1. Hamm had the assist.

The nine goals scored against the Eagles are the most in the series since the very first meeting when the Saints won 13-0 during the 1995 season.

CSS out-shot the Eagles 28-3 for the game, including 11-0 in the second half. Megan Seymour (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS ) made two saves to earn the win for the Saints. Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) also saw some time in net, playing the final 24 minutes. Emily Johnson had nine saves in the loss for the Eagles (4-8-1, 3-5-1 UMAC).

The Saints (10-2-1, 9-0-0 UMAC) will face North Central University tomorrow in Coon Rapids. Action is slated to begin at noon.
