Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Crown

Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team got a road win Friday night defeating Crown College in straight sets.

The first set of the match was a back and forth contest early on until the saints scored four straight points to set the score at 12-7.  The Saints never looked back in that set, eventually winning it 25-13. 

The second set was all CSS with the Saints taking an 8-4 lead early and ending the set with a 25-12 victory.  The Saints then went on to score 16 of the last 18 points in the third to win 25-11, and take the match in straight sets.

Sophomore Kariana DeYoung (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) led the team with a total of nine kills for the Saints, while teammates Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)), Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS), and Taylor Orhn (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway HS) tallied six kills apiece.  DeYoung also recorded seven blocks. The Saints racked up 40 digs total in the match with Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) totaling 15 on her own while also recording one kill.

For Crown (3-20, 2-6 UMAC), Da'neisha Pattersoon led the team with seven kills while Shelby Vischer and Taylor Uruyo led the team in digs with seven.

The Saints (9-12, 5-3 UMAC) will be in action tomorrow against conference leader the Cougars from the University of Minnesota Morris. That match is scheduled to begin at noon.
