Saints Drop Two Matches

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica volleyball team lost both of its matches Friday afternoon at the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The Saints' first match was against the Falcons of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Saints fought hard in all the sets but lost in straight sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-22. 

Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) led the Saints with 10 kills, while Kayla Horbacz (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) added six kills. Erica Birkeland had nine assists, while Emily Jansen (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie-Grey Eagle HS) had eight assists.

The second match came against the host team, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds. The Blugolds took the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. The Saints would come back and win a close third set 27-25. The Blugolds would go on to win the match with a 25-16 tally in the fourth set.

Morrin and Noelle Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) each led the Saints with 15 kills. Horbacz added 12 kills. Taylor Orhn (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway HS) led CSS with 14 digs. Jansen had 21 assists.

The Saints next action will be Saturday afternoon in St. Paul against Moravian College at 1 p.m. followed by a match against Hamline at 3 p.m.
