Volleyball Ends Road Trip with Loss to No. 14 Maroons

Loss snaps CSS's 14-match regular season winning streak

Box Score CHICAGO (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team fell for the first time in 2012 with a four-set defeat to the hands of the 14th-ranked University of Chicago Maroons Tuesday evening.

The Maroons (4-1), who moved up one spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll that was released today, took the first set 25-15. Chicago then took control of the match by winning the second set 25-18. The Saints extended the contest to four after winning set three 25-20, but the Maroons closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in set four.

Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints with 15 kills, while Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)) added nine kills. Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had 30 digs, while Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 29 assists.

The loss snaps the Saints' 14-match regular season winning streak. This was the second meeting between the two programs with the Saints taking the first contest in 2005. CSS won the Oneonta State (N.Y.) over the weekend and made the stop in Chicago on its way home from New York to face the Maroons.

The Saints (4-1) will take part in the Augsburg Invitational this weekend. The Saints will face four quality regional opponents beginning with 18th-ranked College of Saint Benedict on Friday at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Saints defeated the Blazers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
