Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team out shot Northwestern College 27-4 Saturday afternoon on its way to a 2-0 victory in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action at Saints Field.
The first goal of the game came in the 35th minute as
Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) found
Shannon Carlson (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) for her fifth goal of the season. Despite the Saints' peppering Northwestern keeper Sarah Stenson with 12 shots in the first half, the score remained 1-0 headed into half.
However, Carlson's goal would prove to be all the Saints would need, as the resilient defense only allowed four shots all game, and didn't allow a shot on goal in the second half.
The Saints continued to apply the pressure to the Northwestern defense with 15 shots in the second half, adding another goal in the 66th minute as
Claire Lubansky (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS) scored her first goal of the year courtesy of a
Taylor Cunningham (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) assist.
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) saved two shots as she recorded her third shutout of the season. Sarah Stenson made 11 saves in the loss for the Eagles (3-4-0, 3-1-0 UMAC).
The Saints (5-3-1, 4-1-0 UMAC) are now 30-9-1 against Northwestern all-time and will host Bethany Lutheran College next Friday at 2 p.m. at Saints Field. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
