Another Fifth Place Finish for Johnson at Blugold Invite

COLFAX, Wis. (csssaints.com) – Junior Chelsea Johnson (North Branch, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) placed fifth overall for the second consecutive week and the St. Scholastica women's cross country team finished eighth overall on Friday at the Blugold Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Johnson posted a time of 22:00, which was 38 seconds faster than her time last week at the St. Olaf Invitational. That time also moved her up to the second-fastest time in program history, just four seconds off the program record. Johnson was the third NCAA Division III athlete to finish behind a pair of Blugolds and a pair from Division IUniversity of Minnesota.

Kristen Gronbeck (Battle Lake, Minn./Battle Lake HS) was the second CSS runner to finish in 49th place overall with a time of 23:49. Andrea Mogren (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was next, finishing 63rd overall with a time of 24:23.

Kyla Krause (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) was two spots behind Mogren in 65th finishing in 24:26. The final Saint to score was Liz Braml (Turtle Lake, Wis./Turtle Lake HS) just a second behind Krause and another two spots back in 67th.

The University of Minnesota won the meet with 34 points. The host, UW-Eau Claire, was second with 60 points. Carleton College was third with 90 points. The Saints finished with 249 points and was the fourth-highest Division III program to score.

The Saints will be back in action next Saturday when they take part in the 27th annual University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational. The race the Saints will compete will begin at 9 a.m.
