Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team swept North Central University in straight sets in its home opener on Friday night to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
The Saints came out firing on all cylinders, dominating a quick first set 25-5. North Central (0-11, 0-1 UMAC) was simply unable to match the Saints' firepower throughout the game, as the Saints rolled through the second set 25-16 and won the third set 25-12.
Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the Saints with 11 kills and chipped in seven digs along with three aces.
Megan Windschitl (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) and
Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) added five kills each, while
Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had a team-high 12 digs.
Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 22 assists and
Kirsten Eaton (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) added eight of her own.
For the Rams, Veronica Parks led the team with eight digs and Whitney Reams had 10 assists in the game.
The Saints (6-7, 1-0 UMAC) will have a tougher time tomorrow when they host preseason conference favorite Northwestern College at 1 p.m. at the Reif Gymnasium. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
