Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak to Macalester College on Friday with a 2-1 season-opening victory over the Scots in the Advantage Emblem Cup at Saints Field.
The Saints struck first six minutes into the contest as
Logan Williamson (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) played in a corner and after a header by
Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) and a pass by
Claire Lubansky (Chaska, Minn./Chaska HS), the ball found the foot of Williamson again, who floated the ball over the 'keeper into the far corner.
The Scots did outshoot the Saints in the first half 9-6, but the score remained 1-0 into the second half.
The Saints extended their lead to 2-0 six minutes into the second half off a corner once again as freshman
Alexi Bopray (River Falls, Wis./River Falls HS) knocked the ball into the net directly off of Williamson's pass.
The Scots did not lie down, getting one of the goals back six minutes later on a Margaret Nemetz tally. The Scots, who outshot the Saints 11-2 in the second half, kept the pressure on, but freshman goalkeeper
Kelsey Reeves (Eagle River, Alaska/Eagle River HS ) stood up to the challenge as the Saints came out with a 2-1 triumph.
Reeves, the Alaska native, made 13 saves in her first collegiate start to earn the win.
The Saints will face 14th-ranked Concordia College-Moorhead at 5 p.m. tomorrow at Saints Field for the Advantage Emblem Cup title. The Cobbers defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 2-0 in the nightcap. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
